In this session, we would brainstorm and develop a list of legislative concepts that we would push in the legislature and as possible ballot initiatives.

SFMTA is lightyears behind in technology compared with other transit operators across the world, and within the states. Discuss how technology can help SFMTA better measure and operate its multi-mode transit operations to improve on-time performance and customer satisfaction.

Most City of SF processes are a hodge-podge of kludgy, unweildy hand-me-downs accumulated over decades. The majority are still paper-based, and those that are computerized often are outdated and don't communicate with each other. Cases in point: (1) "FAMIS," the City's primary accounting system, makes the screen turn black with blocky green characters, a user-hostile interface straight out of 1979; (2) many departments still use papaer timesheets. How can the City accomplish fundamental technological change? How can it incorporate fundamental process streamlining at the same time?

A horizon-scanning program in SF would help identify innovations around the world particularly relevant for SF government, organizations, and citizens. Some cities, such as Singapore, have such a program to collect provocative ideas for mid-long term planning, building short-term relationships, and setting a research and networking agenda.

All California gyms are required to have AEDs (the shock system for response to sudden cardiac arrest). SF is in the process of updating it's AED database. This field session would involve visiting gyms with a flyers about the law and SF's efforts to reduce SCA deaths. We would map existing AEDs and encourage gyms that don't have them to install them.

StreetSmARTs works with established street artists to create beautiful murals on private property in order to prevent graffiti vandalism. Join the discussion about using new media and Gov 2.0 tools to help spread the word and establish a database of potential candidates for this program, and ideas for attracting support for other graffiti prevention and beautification initiatives like GPS graffiti reporting and large-scale neighborhood cleanup events.
